South Africa 5’x3′ Flag
Crafted in March 1994 and formally embraced on April 27, 1994, amidst South Africa's 1994 general election, the current South African flag supplanted the prior design that had held sway since 1928.
The flag unfurls with parallel strips of red atop and blue below, possessing identical widths. These segments are partitioned by a central green stripe that diverges into a horizontal "Y" configuration, extending its arms to the corners on the side of the flagpole, aligning with the flag's diagonals. Encircling this "Y" is a black isosceles triangle, its edges distanced by slender bands of yellow or gold. Delicate white lines separate the red and blue strips from the green strip and its extensions. The proportions of the stripes at the end opposite the flagpole stand in a 5:1:3:1:5 arrangement. The palette draws three of its hues from the South African Republic's banner, originally inspired by the Dutch flag and the Union Jack, while the remaining trio of colours is sourced from the African National Congress's ensign. This flag garners nicknames such as "Seskleur," meaning "six-colour" in English, and "Rainbow Flag."
